Fine Hair vs. Thick Hair: Which Cut Helps?
Fine describes the width of an individual strand; thick can mean coarse strands or simply a lot of hair. Tell your stylist which you mean. Density, wave pattern and routine can matter more than a label.

If your strands are fine
A blunt or lightly textured outline can make ends appear denser. Heavy layering can remove the weight that creates that effect, although gentle face framing may still work well.
If your hair is fine but dense, you may have many more options than a person with sparse density. Ask to see how the cut falls dry and whether it holds your preferred shape without much heat styling.
If your hair is dense or coarse
Strategic layers may remove bulk and make movement easier. Too much thinning at the wrong point can create short pieces that expand or frizz.
Discuss where weight is concentrated and how much styling you will do. A long layered cut and a compact bob can both work, but they distribute volume differently.
A useful salon checklist
Describe your natural texture, wash routine and the time you can spend styling. Show an example of the silhouette you want and another of the amount of volume you do not want.
